Mint Julep

This is the beverage of Louisville and is especially popular at the big race. Be sure to try these hundred year-old traditional beverages soon and have them on hand for your guests. The recipe is simple:
  • 4 sprigs of mint
  • ½ teaspoon of confectioner sugar
  • 1 Kentucky Bourbon
In a highball glass, crush one sprig of mint lightly with sugar. Add ice and bourbon. Stir until the glass frosts over. Add remaining mint as a garnish. Enjoy. And don’t put away the bourbon just yet. Try this awesome bourbon infused pecan pie for the greatest treat on race day: Bourbon Pecan Pie
  • ½ cup melted and cool, unsalted butter
  • ¾ cup light brown sugar
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup corn syrup
  • 4 eggs
  • ¼ cup Kentucky bourbon
  • 1 ½ tbs vanilla extract
  • 1 ¼ cup pecans
  • ¾ chocolate chips
  • 9 inch pie crust
Prepare crust. In large bowl or stand mixer, whisk both sugars, butter, corn syrup, bourbon, vanilla and eggs until a frothy consistency begins to show. Gently fold in chocolate chips and pecans with a spatula. Fill prepared pie crust with as much of the filling as possible. Bake at 350F for 50 to 60 minutes. Allow to cool completely. Serve smothered in whipped cream and ice cream.
