Why a wedding dress is usually white?

And now most of the brides prefer white as the main color of their wedding dresses. However, very often the dresses are decorated with embroidery or with a waistband of contrasting colors - red, blue or green. And if a choice of wedding gown becomes a real headache, you can feel free to select any color, as the tradition of wearing a white dress is still very young and cannot be regarded as mandatory rule.
